Tegal-Bitung-Manado (again:))

The aim of this journey is to get the holistic mapping of the trafficking cases in the fishing industry. It started from Pantura, Indramayu-Tegal-Pemalang-Semarang, around the north of Java, and ended in Celebes.

I just joined with the team in Tegal for 2 days and Bitung for 5 days. Maybe the detail of our work couldn’t be explained here.

The lesson that we should learn from our research is that it is important to educate the crew before they will be sent to work in the fishing vessel abroad or in Indonesia. The recruitment agency should notice as well that they can sent them to the receiving country with the skill, competency, and other standard requirements. They should understand the law, language and other important things to protect them.

The bureaucracy efficiency is an important thing as well. The problem when they want to work abroad is too many institutions that they should pass for the document requirements, we could say too many “doors”. It will affect that the recruitment agency will cut the way and they bribe or do the illegal procedure.

The protection from the country then leads to the priority. There should be no omission. Responsibility is a must from our officer in the destination country.

I am touched for many times with this injustice in this world, can’t hold my tears when see them, the victims, the family.

Lebih-lebih menjadi energi saat bisa selalu bersentuhan langsung dengan mereka yang membutuhkan pertolongan kita.

They came from all over Indonesia: Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Java. Their destination country is mostly Taiwan.

ISFIT Preparation

Semenjak pengumuman dr ISFIT Norway awal November lalu (saya ingat sekali tepatnya tanggal 4 November, saya sungguh hampir lupa saya pernah apply, saat itu saya sedang menginap di rumah teman saya Audrey sehabis bekerja hingga larut malam, saya sungguh tidak membayangkan ini terjadi tapi Tuhan membukakan jalan, semoga bisa mengerjakan dengan baik:D). Cara seleksi untuk mengikuti ISFIT ini adalah dengan mengirim 2 esai (sebetulnya 3, tapi esai ketiga ini tidak wajib, dan itu jika ingin mendapat travel support, karena ISFIT hanya menanggung akomodasi dan transportasi selama disana, tiket pulang pergi dari negara tidak ditanggung).
